In the summer of 2016, Baobab tree, which was born in the third year, was brought online and has been living with me for more than six years. The baobab tree is now nine years old.
The origin of Adansonia digitata (baobab tree)
If you know the geographical characteristics and climate of the area where the plant grow, you can know how to grow the plant.
1. [An area where Adansonia digitata grows]
A tropical savanna region in Africa between 16° north and 26° south
Baobab Tree Species Distribution Area ([Source]) https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Approximate-distribution-area-of-Adansonia-digitata-and-localisation-of-other-Adansonia_fig1_354229439)
2. [Climate]
Savannah (Spanish for 'treeless plain') climate with average daytime temperatures between 19°C and 35°C, annual rainfall between 300 mm and 500mm
It's easy to think of the common meadow in National Geographic. Baobab trees grow alone in a climate with clear dry and rainy seasons. There should be no cold winter or frost.
3. [Place of habitat]
Most of them grow in dry areas with less precipitation.
In short, you can think of the savanna climate of the African safari.

Characteristics of Adansonia digitata appearance
Adansonia digitata appearance
1.[Roots]
The original root part is chubby compared to the regular root.
[Important thing] The ability to store water in the roots is excellent, so it is strong for drying Watch out for over-wetting!
2. [Stem]
The stem is plump and thick.
It can grow 5 to 25 meters tall. The width may increase from 10 to 14 meters.
[Important thing] If the stem is thick and fat, the ability to store water is excellent, so it is strong for drying~! Watch out for over-wetting!
3.[Leaves]
Leaves are thin.
[Important thing] Thin leaves mean that leaves are mainly used for photosynthesis without storing water.
Baobab trees live by storing water in roots and stems to survive in areas with distinct dry and rainy seasons. It is very strong against dryness and also very weak against cold.
Conclusion: how to grow Adansonia digitata well
1. [Soil]Soil with good drainage
Mix a lot of pearlite, chaffand so on. It makes the soil condition more rough for good drainage.
2. [Pot] If you grow it indoors, you need a pot that drains well.
3. [Light] You should grow plants in places with good lighting.
[Reason] Think of the African heat and grasslands environment.
4. [Wind]When you grow plants indoors, you have to ventilate them well. Let's use an air circulator or an electric fan!
Reason: It grows in a little high place with good wind, so a well-ventilated place is good environment for the plant.
5. Spray the leaves (both front and back) about once a day or two. (Purpose of preventing disease and pest)
6. [Water] Don't water it often! This plant is resistant to dry environments. But when you water, you should water thoroughly.
[Important thing]I check the condition of the potted soil using disposable wooden chopsticks. I put wooden chopsticks into the potted soil and remove them. If there is little soil, water the plants.
7. [Mind]If you decide to grow a plant, you need the passion and responsibility not to kill the plant. (I recommend you to search for how to raise plants.)
The baobab tree is the perfect companion plant based on my lifestyle. It grows slowly, is not sensitive, does not have to water it often, and above all, it is strong.
This Adansonia digitata is the plant that the little prince is afraid of growing big enough to destroy his planet in 'the little prince book'.But unlike the Little Prince book, it takes a lot of time and effort for the baobab tree to grow big. For your information, some of the existing baobab trees are more than 2,000 years old.
Adansonia digitata, let's continue to be my pet plant!
